Christopher Barbot, of Ulster County, was arrested in Orange County by the City of Newburgh Police around 12:39 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, after officers responded to William Street for a report of shots fired, said Det. Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano.

According to Rutigliano, when officers arrived on the scene, they didn't find a victim; however, with the help of the state police, they were able to locate six spent shell casing with two vehicles that sustained damage from gunfire.

While investigating, officers noticed a vehicle seemingly trying to avoid police activity, Rutigliano said.

The vehicle attempted to drive the wrong way on West Parmenter Street before changing course and driving southbound on William Street.

Officers attempted to initiate a vehicle and traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to stop and continued westbound on Hasbrouck Street before the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, Rutigliano said.

Officers gave chase, and the driver, identified as Barbot was taken into custody and found to have an active parole warrant, he added.

Barbot was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor lacerations to his feet suffered from losing his shoes attempting to escape.

A Police K9 track located Barbot’s sneakers later on.

Barbot was charged with the parole violation and turned over to The Orange County Sheriffs Office.
